M30 Engine-single overhead cam, chain driven, twelve valve “Big block”

The engine which forms the foundation of B.M.W’s “modern” success. Fitted into various models in various guises, E3,E9,E12,E23,E24,E28,E32 and E34, From 2 .5,to 2.8,3.0,3.3,up to 3.5.

All are in a lowly state of tune from the factory, being grossly regulated by the engine management systems, and strangled to death in it's U.K. form, by the exhaust system.

Considered to be big and heavy, the old girl will out perform the Rover V8 by some considerable amount in “stock” form, and given a nudge or two in the right places, is full of surprises. Lots of grunt with reasonable fuel economy, a great engine in the right car.
